American Legion Post 305
The American Legion was established in 1922 as a national organization of veterans of all wars to serve God, country, and their communities to ensure the freedoms that were fought for do not get taken away.
The American Legion sponsors the Boys and Girls State, Boys and Girls County, Legion baseball, high school programs, and scholarships. The Legion also provides military funerals for deceased veterans. The Legion is the sponsor of the annual Waverly Memorial Day Parade and following Memorial Ceremony held in Railroad Park. Legion members provide the honor guard for the Waverly Daze and the Waverly St. Patrick’s Day parades. The Legion works with the Auxiliary to put on the annual fundraising Turkey Bingo held in November of each year.
The Post dedicated a Memorial Wall in Railroad Park that lists all Waverly Area deceased veterans. This wall is made possible by the generous donations of many community members and local businesses.
Members maintain the Veterans’ Photo Gallery located in City Hall (If you would like your veteran photo in the Gallery contact Dave Remer at (763) 675-3602 to submit your 3” x 5” photo or bring it to City Hall.)
The local post meets the second Thursday in March through May, and September through November at 7:30 PM at the Village Hall or the Waverly City Hall. Officers are Commander Dwayne Diers, Adjutant Leroy Custer, Vice Commander Jud Meyer, and Treasurer Pat Kittock.
There are approximately 30 members. Membership dues are $35 a year. You must be an honorably discharged member of the Armed Forces who served more than 90 days during a time of conflict to join. For more information, contact Past Commander, Ken Borrell, at (763) 843-3809.
